organisation which is independent from all Health Funds.
What is Medicare?
Medicare is the Public Health care system which is funded
with Tax Payers money and administered by the Australian Government.
Medicare pays for benefits towards Doctors Bills up to a set Schedule
fee. Most residence of Australia are eligible to receive Medicare
benefits, however if you are a temporary resident on a Visitors
Visa it is quite possible that you are not eligible to receive this
benefit.
What percentage of my tax is paid towards
Medicare?
The standard rate is 1.5% of your total taxable income.
If you earn more than $50,000 as a single person, $100,000 as a
couple or $100,000 as a family with one child and do not have Private
Hospital cover, the tax rate is 2.4%.
Does Medicare cover me in a Private Hospital?
Medicare will pay up to 75% of the schedule fee for doctors
bills but no benefit is paid towards any fees charged by the private
hospital. That's why it's a good idea to have Private Health Insurance.
Does Medicare pay for ambulance transportation?
No. Ambulance transportation is generally covered under your
Private Health Insurance.
How do I become a member of Health Insurance
Brokers?
As soon as you have completed Health Insurance Brokers simple
evaluation you are a member.
Must I / We complete an evaluation for private
health insurance?
Yes. Health Insurance Brokers is unable to recommend a health
fund or level of cover without obtaining a completed evaluation
from each member.
What is Ancillary/Extras?
Ancillary/Extras is a service provided out of hospital i.e.
Dental, Optical, Physiotherapy, Chiropractor, Remedial Massage etc.
General Dental - Consultation, Examination, Scale & Cleaning,
Fluoride application, Simple extraction's, Fillings and X-ray's.
Major Dental - Crowns, Bridges, Dentures, Periodontics (relates
to the tissues around the teeth ie.gums), Endodontics (Root-canal
therapy), Orthodontics (Braces), Inlays, Onlays and Facings.
